Hello Everyone !
We need your hearts and hands to Create a Handmade Holiday for U. S. Troups in Afghanistan!

Melissa Dunworth from Sew BitterSweet Designs and Kristy Smith from Hopeful Threads have teamed up to bring a homemade Christmas to our troops serving overseas in Afghanistan. The project was born because Melissa’s husband is currently deployed for the second time. She thought it would be wonderful to send his unit some homemade gifts for the holidays to let them know that even though they are not here, they are still at home in our hearts. We will be collecting E-Reader (think iPads and Nooks) Covers and Pillowcase covers. We will need plenty for both men and women. We are asking for any kind of donation you might like to make, whether it be fabric to sew with or a donation of prizes for those sewists who do sew something for donation.
As mentioned above, Melissa is a military wife and mother of a precious child, Anne, who’s father is in Afghanistan. This is an image of the day he left for his second deployment to Afghanistan. As with all spouses and children, it is difficult beyond words, to have their husband/wife/father deployed for 9 monthsor longer and in this war, most have been re-deployed several times. It is a tremendous loss and very difficult adjustment for everyone.
My husband and I have always believed in Peace, but on the other hand, feel the deep dedication that our U.S. Military and their family members have shown. In getting to know Melissa, I have learned first hand the effects of a spouse and father being deployed. I don’t know how the spouse’s do it, I guess, the quote “one day at a time” has never had more meaning to me.
Both Melissa Dunworth of Sew BitterSweet Designs and Kristy Smith of Hopeful Threads are true “givers” on this planet. They both are always sewing for others and promoting projects to help those in need…two “gems of kindness” on this planet. I feel so grateful to have crossed paths with both of them.
